The Disappearance of the Universe: Straight Talk about Illusions, Past Lives, Religion, Sex, Politics, and the Miracles of Forgiveness by Gary R. Renard (Fearless Books), remarkable in itself, is published by the remarkable Fearless Books, founded in 1997 by D. Patrick Miller in order to publish his own comprehensive journalistic report on A Course in Miracles® (ACIM®), The Complete Story of the Course.

The Disappearance of the Universe is the account of a startling visitation upon its author: when Gary Renard opened his eyes after meditating in his rural Maine home one day in 1992, he saw two strangers, a man and a woman in their mid-30s, seated on a couch opposite him. He was even more surprised when these normal-looking visitors identified themselves as "ascended masters" who had come to teach him no less than the secrets of the universe. Instead of calling the cops (or a shrink), this musician-turned-stock trader decided to give the mysterious couple, later identified as Pursah and Arten, the benefit of the doubt. Thus began nearly ten years of conversations on a host of subjects including religion, reincarnation, sex, the politics of the day, and the miraculous powers of advanced forgiveness. They also introduced him to the modern spiritual teaching known as A Course in Miracles® (ACIM®), and coached him intensively on its radical philosophy as well as its demanding mental discipline.

The results of these remarkable encounters between an ordinary man and his extraordinary visitors are now available in The Disappearance of the Universe.

"I think of this book as a collection of conversations with a smarter God." says publisher Miller. "None of the very popular books borrowing Course principles has dared to reveal the full depth and challenge of this teaching. An unfortunate result is that many people think of the Course as a New Age feel-good philosophy, when its most dedicated students know that nothing could be further from the truth. [This]… will be the first popular book drawing inspiration from A Course in Miracles that gets it right — and does so in a way that’s both eye-opening and entertaining."

And from the author, “You don’t have to believe these appearances took place in order to derive benefits from the information in this book. … At any rate, I leave it up to readers to think whatever they choose about the book’s origins. …I personally believe that The Disappearance of the Universe can be helpful, time-saving reading for any open-minded person who is on a spiritual path. After you experience this message, it may be impossible for you — as it was for me — ever to look at your life or think of the universe the same way again.”
